NEW DOF PROJECT KICKS OFF!

The LCA Lab is pleased to partner with the Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF) on a new project related to biomass power production in Virginia. Specifically, our team will help synthesize information about policies and technologies pertaining to bio-power production in the Southeastern US and conduct a life cycle assessment (LCA) of three currently operating power plants that are consuming forest residues to produce electricity. We will work with a panel of stakeholders to assess the extent to which continued operation of the three power plants is consistent with the goals of the Virginia Clean Economy Act. DOF was directed by the Virginia state legislator to convene the panel of stakeholders and oversee the LCA process via HB 2026.

Nafisa is the grad student lead on this work. We are also pleased to welcome an undergraduate research assistant (“intern”), Abigail, who will be supported by UVA’s Environmental Institute this summer! The photos below were taken after the project kickoff meeting at the DOF headquarters in Charlottesville and at our group lunch at a nearby restaurant afterwards!
